Please add entries in the following format:
- The meme. [[labelnote:Explanation]]The explanation behind the meme, if necessary.[[/labelnote]] Explanation Like this.
- Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
- Eat this! note When Midoriya is about be given One For All, he expects some kind of incredible Super Empowering ceremony. Instead, All Might plucks a hair off his head and tells Midoriya to eat it (as seen in the page image), much to Midoriya's horror and disgust. He later brings it up again with All Might after fighting Stain, complete with contorting his face into a perfect replica of All Might's and dropping his voice to match his.
- "Clench your asshole super tight and scream [[smash]] from the bottom of your heart!!!" note All Might's instruction to Midoriya on how to use the power of One For All.
- Deku's rival harem. note Spawned from the fact that many characters seem to want to be a rival to Midoriya. First, we have Bakugo. Then Todoroki declared his rivalry right before the Sports Festival. During the Sports Festival, Iida also declared his rivalry. In the Sports Festival Tournament, even Uraraka did it. Noteworthy to point that those are four of the most popular pairings of the fandom.
- SHOOOOTOOOO!!!! note Endeavor shouting Shoto's name on occasion
- The Deku Headbang. (Epileptic Flashing Lights warning) note In the first episode of the anime, there's a flashback to Midoriya rocking his head in anticipation while his mother starts up a video of All Might. It's been edited in a number of ways and used as a reaction GIF.
- Even All For One is a better father than Endeavor. note This spawned from a moment in Chapter 89 where All For One assured Shigaraki that he would do better next time instead of scolding him for his failure. Though, considering how they both attempted (and in one case, succeeded) in grooming their kids, he isn't actually that great a dad.)
- Hugaraka note A scene of Uraraka grabbing onto the (fake) missile in Episode 7 has prompted people to edit that pose into various pictures.
- "Those aren't just random [Insert Character/Object/Action Here] Each of those [Insert Character/Object/Action Here]... is more than 100% of his power!" note In reference to All Might's fight with the Nomu. Frequently found in You Say Run videos to describe something the character is doing. For example, You Say Run - The Tigger Movie.'Those aren't just random bounces. Each of those bounces... is more than 100% of his power!'
- Deep Dope note A particular shirt that Jiro wore in an official picture that some forum users found hilarious, due to the wording and the fact that the shirt also points down to the wearer's crotch.
- Shoto eating Explanation Shoto Todoroki is often memed as being a Big Eater because of an anime shot where he ate a very big bundle of soba in one bite, instead of pouring it into his dish during the Final Exams arc.
- Barbarian King Bakugo note When Bakugo won the second popularity poll, he was drawn in a fantasy aesthetic wearing fur robes that gave him the appearance of a barbarian warrior. The image only grew in popularity when the second ED of the anime's second season used the same theme, and showed Bakugo riding a dragon.
- Little Red Riot Hood Explanation A Halloween chapter of the spin-off My Hero Academia Smash!! showed Kirishima dressed as Little Red Riding Hood and Bakugo as the Big Bad Wolf chasing him, which has inspired a lot fanart and fanfics.
- Rat bitch Explanation Some vandalism on Mineta's wiki page replaced some of his description with this phrase. ◊ Due to his hatedom, it's managed to become the go-to moniker for him.
- Midoriya's Quirk Explanation A lot of people, both jokingly and seriously, think Midoriya wasn't actually quirkless and did have a Quirk, just that he didn't notice it because it was so innocuous and common of him. The proposed ideas range from the reasonable to the absurd.
- You Say Run Goes With Everything note Much like Guile's theme and "Rules of Nature", fans have spliced "You Say Run" into various scenes to make them better.
- The Traitor is (blank) note After hearing the discovery that someone at U.A. is a traitor, it's become a common theme amongst fans to theorize who said traitor could be. A common choice ends up being Kaminari, who some believe has actually been hiding a true, much darker, persona behind a comedic Butt-Monkey facade. It's Aoyama.
- PLUS ULTRA note Particularly useful when someone knows they're about to go too far but will do so anyways for the hell of it. Helps that it's one in-universe as well, as it's the school motto.
- "Never ever go for this. Only villains do that." note All Might explains how toilet paper should always be used with the roll in front instead of the back. Fans have taken to editing the image to show All Might's opinions on other incredibly mundane things, such as normal soda vs. diet, squeezing the toothpaste tube from the end vs. near the neck, etc. The meme cranked Up to Eleven as Legendary's announcement of adapting the manga as a live-action movie has become a common mundane source instead.
- I KEEP MY IDEALS note Occasionally, a screencap of All Might yelling during the fourth opening ◊ is added to an aforementioned meme to show All Might expressing his approval of a third option beyond the initial two.
- Posting nude pictures of Hagakure along with comments about how lewd and inappropriate it is. In general, she's a bit of a magnet for fanservice jokes in the fandom. It's helped by her actual hero costume being literally just a pair of gloves and shoes, and that said memes are remarkably easy to do (similar to the old "There are fifty ninjas in this picture" meme).
- (Noun) FUCKING (Verb)S note Used on the MHA subreddit, usually used in the form of "DEKU FUCKING DIES" (which was actually the banner of the subreddit on April Fools). Other examples include MIRIO FUCKING DIES or ERI FUCKING SMILES.
- I HAVE LEGS! ◊ Explanation After nearly paralyzing his arms permanently during his battle with Muscular, Midoriya comes to the realization that he's been trying too hard to emulate All Might by only using his fists, opting to get more equipment and train to use more kicks. While it makes sense in this context, the fact that this relatively simple conclusion is presented as a world-shattering revelation for Midoriya has made it easy to turn it into a joke.
- Time to break my bones! Explanation Midoriya's willingness to break his bones repeatedly in order to use One For All early in the series has been exaggerated into him being enthusiastic about it. The meme only grew stronger after Midoriya began using his legs more in tandem with the "I HAVE LEGS" meme.
- Confused Bakugo ◊ note S3E6 of the anime features some of the students of Class 1-A finally regrouping during the League of Villains' raid of their training camp. The group discusses the best method of keeping Bakugo safe, as he is their target, and several moments are dedicated to Bakugo's absolute bewilderment of the conversation. It didn't take long for the fandom to start homing in on it.
- "Your finest X, please." note At the end of Chapter 183, the now arrested Gentle asks the police officer for "your finest black tea", to which the officer angrily yells out he'll be getting the "instant crap". It quickly became a meme, with many replacing tea with other things.
- Season 3 of Free! looks great. note The first episode of the anime's third season was a Filler Beach Episode. The boys of Class 1-A having a swimming competition (and getting way more Fanservice attention than the girls) led to comparisons with Free!, whose own third season had recently been announced and would air three months later.
- Several funny moments like Midoriya imitating All Might's face and Mitsuki slapping Katsuki is jokingly noted as their secret/extra "Quirk".
- "I am here!" note The scene in Season 3 of a kid Midoriya using an All Might onesie and playing with his mom has become this, in which the image of him opening the door has been edited to either put baby Midoriya entering in rooms or using him coming to help his mom in another context.
- SLURP! note In Chapter 192, Shoto and Natsuo meet with Endeavor, with Shoto making a particularly snippy and passive-aggressive remark about his father's new scar, which looks like Shoto's own scar (something Endeavor was indirectly responsible for). The fandom has since made passive-aggressive loud slurping a staple of the Todoroki family.
- IT'S LIT FAM Explanation A member of the Shiketsu High representatives, Camie Utsushimi, speaks with lots of slang in her dialogue, which due to the fact that Japanese slang would end up Lost in Translation for obvious reasons, some English translations take some liberties and splice in English slang in their place. Some translations ◊ provided by certain groups are...more egregious than others with these liberties to say the least. This has lead such phrases as the aforementioned to be jokingly parroted, or exaggerated when Camie is discussed.
- Almost immediately, the last scene of Chapter 193 has become this because it looks highly suggestive of a certain biological teenage event in Quirk form, and has given rise to jokes about "sleepquirking" as well.
- Frogs can't do math. Explanation Anime sub specific, but in the North American sub of Season 3 Episode 15, Tsuyu's math near the end of the episode, after it's announced that only 100 of the 1,540 examinees will advance to the second round, is mistranslated, creating an arithmetic error that wasn't actually there.
- Sky High 2 Explanation The announcement of a live-action movie automatically had fans joking about the fact that said adaptation will be essentially the Cult Classic Disney movie Sky High, of which the manga is considered a Spiritual Successor, but with a new outlook.
- REVELRY IN THE DARK Explanation Tokoyami's repeatedly uttering this line before the Test of Courage at the training camp quickly caused it to catch on, often being said whenever he comes up amidst fans.
- [Insert Character Here]bowl Explanation Initially simply called Dekubowl to refer to Midoriya's status as a Launcher of a Thousand Ships, the "bowl" became a concept of its own as more characters started getting this status. Bakugo and Jiro in particular got hit with this after Chapter 207, in which people began making a ship out of them, only to realize just how many people they're both shipped with.
- Secret Love Child Explanation Ever since he uttered the now memetic line, fanon has it that Shoto suspects this of any other characters who might possibly be related.
- Todoroki the Conspiracy Theorist Explanation As a result of the above meme, if anyone needs a conspiracy theorist, especially for comedic purposes, it's probably going to be Shoto.
- "TRY HARDER, DUDE" Explanation The reveal of one of One For All's wielders at the end of Chapter 212 is not only memorable for the super funky look of Daigoro Banjo, but also because of this incredible piece of advice.
- Aizawa's son and daughter Explanation Because of his interactions with said characters, the former as his teacher with an identical fighting style and the latter as a caretaker, people like to joke that Shinso and Eri are his son and daughter.
- SEVEN QUIRKS Explanation (MAJOR Spoilers) Thanks to Quirk singularity and One For All's innate ability to grow stronger each time it's passed on, Midoriya is able to access the Quirks of six of One For All's past users (excluding All Might who was Quirkless). The fact that he has access to a total of seven Quirks sent the fandom into a frenzy with jokes and memes popping up all over.
- Keeping Up With the Todorokis Explanation A Shout-Out to Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Surfaced during the Pro Hero Arc, when the Todoroki family drama got the spotlight again and used whenever a discussion refers to the family drama of the Todorokis.
- Endeavor's butt. Explanation In March 2019, a new Endeavor figurine was announced, showing several angles of the sculpture. One of the angles shows how the figure gives him a very well-sculpted butt, and many fans also noticed that it looked like he was wearing a thong under his hero costume. Cue several (link mild NSFW) people on Twitter making fun of the design.
- "Hawks is a black man" Explanation When it was announced Zeno Robinson would be voicing Hawks for the Heroes Rising movie, Black MHA Fans on Twitter who were already excited because of Rock Lock, a canonically black hero also voiced by a black voice actor, were quick to deem Hawks an honorary "Black man". It even went as far as fan-art and manga page edits making Hawks look like a black person.
- I can't believe I got spoiled about Bakugo's death. Explanation A troll edit created via reused stock images representing the characters reacting to Bakugo's death. Cue a horde of fans jokingly giving "serious" reactions the event as if the image was legitimate, or showing it to anime-only fans as a means of making them think the manga had actually killed him off.
- Glamoroki Explanation During the Remedial Course Arc, Camie creates an illusion of Todoroki that acts like a typical flirty shoujo-esque love interest towards one of the little girls the hero students are supposed to win over, only to be revealed as fake a moment later. Bakugo, who thinks it's hilarious, imitates the illusion's flirty lines and calls Todoroki "Glamoroki" ("Maboroki" in Japanese). Both Glamoroki and Bakugo imitating Glamoroki became memetic after the anime adaptation of these scenes aired.
- One Whole Bird/An Entire Bird note Starting with this comic, fans theorized that Hawks would take Tokoyami as his intern because, with Tokoyami's bird head and his wings, they'd make One Whole Bird. This is later confirmed, as the reason Hawks took an intern in the first place was because the Hero Commission wanted an intern from 1-A in order to obtain intel, and that the thing that drew Hawks to Tokoyami more than the rest of the class was that they were "birds of a feather."
- All girls are best girl. Explanation Due to how well written (and generally attractive) basically every female character is in the series, a number of fans have remarked that you could open the manga to any random page and find a "best girl".
- It's commonly joked and memed on in the fandom that Mirio is either pretty much or just outright called Vault Boy, the mascot of Bethesda's Fallout series. As both share the same blond haircut and Black Bead Eyes. The fact that he's able to clip through the floor as a part of his Quirk's uses (and that it's been described as a video game glitch ◊ in-universe) helps further the comparisons.
- My Hero Acadamia: The show where everyone's the main character Explanation Between the many instances of Two Lines, No Waiting and excellent writing, many fans are quick to note how all sorts of characters, both major and minor, could themselves be the main character of their own show with the amount of depth and development they possess.
- Hiroshima Nagasaki ◊ Explanation Following an Unfortunate Implications controversy regarding an unintentional reference in early February of 2020 to wartime atrocities committed by Imperial Japan in World War II which led to the series getting taken down online in the Chinese mainland indefinitely, Chinese users begin to photoshop ◊ Izuku Midoriya's character card into an explosive character and named him after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the two Japanese cities nuked by the Allied forces at the end of the war. It was not only widespread in the Chinese internet for a short while, but some Chinese Twitter accounts even went to Kohei Horikoshi's "apology" tweet about the incident (which they didn't accept as they thought that the creator only gave an explanation and his "apology" was not sincere) to use this image to harass him. This is also seems to be an Forced Meme itself in the non-Chinese fandom.
- One even renamed ◊ Izuku Midoriya and Taishiro Toyomitsu (aka. Fat Gum) to "Hiroshima" and "Nagasaki".
- "2020.2.4 Ending. ◊ It's okay now, just ask why, it's because All Might have punched Kohei Horikoshi's head into a pulp." note An translation of the "final" chapter of a Chinese MHA fanfic. For the reason shown in "Hiroshima Nagasaki" example above, Chinese fanfics writers has forced to cancel any of their MHA fanfics to distancing themselves from the controversy surrounding the series. One now-deleted Chinese MHA fanfic have concluded on a small note with the modified version of "because I'm here" quotes, which said that All Might have punched Kohei Horikoshi's head into a pulp. This has becoming a meme in the Chinese internet for a while, but an Chinese slang was censored out on a few other videos wherever the meme appears. Note: February 3, 2020 is where the controversial MHA manga Chapter 259 came out, and the fanfic image appears entirely in Chinese.
- "Beat his ass, young Midoriya." "Oh okay, if you insist." Explanation An oft-referenced exchange recorded by All Might and Midoriya's English voice actors. Common in discussions of chapters/episodes where Deku is fighting someone.
- Mr. Compress the DILF Explanation After Mr. Compress revealed his face, there were a lot of reactions about how attractive he looked under his "clown suit." The fact that he was also shirtless at the time probably contributed to this.
- Deku in the Spider-Verse Explanation (Spoiler Alert) Chapter 295 featured Deku unlocking the Fourth Holder's Quirk, Danger Sense, which allows its user to detect when someone's life is in danger around them. This coupled with the Fifth's Quirk Blackwhip has lead to numerous jokes of Izuku being the Spider-Man of his series.
- Aoyama Breaking the Fourth Wall. Explanation It is surprisingly easy to find screenshots from the anime in which Yuga Aoyama appears to be looking directly at the audience. This has led to jokes about him being a Fourth-Wall Observer, which in turn led to jokes about him either trying to communicate with the audience somehow or knowing he's in an anime and being appropriately Genre Savvy.
- "I always feel like somebody's watching me.." Explanation It's pretty much obligatory at this point for the chorus to "Somebody's Watching Me" to play during any YouTube clip or compilation of Aoyama looking at the camera — carrying the implication that the viewer is Being Watched by him the whole time.
- "Ojiro's there too." Explanation A reference to a speed focused exercise of racing through an industrial area, the rest of Class 1A started talking about who would finish first. While they gave reasons for why Izuku, Iida, or Sero might win, all Ojiro got was "Ojiro's there too." As Ojiro is considered The Generic Guy for Class-1A and often Out of Focus, this has been used to summarize him as a character.
- "Who's Ojiro?" Explanation Taking the above even further, some fans pretend they've never heard of Ojiro at all.
- Yui Kodai. Quirk: Size Explanation During the last battle between Class 1-A and Class 1-B during the Joint Training Arc, her quirk was presented as "changing the size of anything", but then showing "but can only change the size of non-living things", showing reactions to how people initially assumed it meant changing the size of anything, even certain parts.
- Mass Murderer Deku. Explanation The promo for the third movie shows a news report saying Deku is wanted for mass murder. Many fans found the idea of All-Loving Hero Dork Knight Deku being a mass murderer hilarious, with even the scene itself showing the dissonance between the accused crime and Deku's innocent-looking character design, quickly turning it into a meme.
- FORWARD MARCH AND HERE WE GO, MEMBERS OF THE AGENCY BAKUGO! SAI- EUGH! Explanation Bakugo's log-walking cheer from the English dub caught popularity with fans, spawning several YouTube clips and parodies, in part due to the unintentionally funny moment of him falling from the log with static animation, cutting himself off mid-cheer.
- Endeavor vs Truck-kun Explanation When Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto are interning with Endeavor, he casually prevents a truck from hitting a woman in the street while explaining that they're not fast enough and that in the real world people die if a hero is too slow. While this was largely overlooked when manga chapter 248 was released, the anime adaptation of the scene in episode 103 got a lot more attention. Since "Truck-kun" is a famous meme from the Isekai genre (due to characters in many stories getting reincarnated in another world after being hit by a truck), fans now joke that Endeavor is the hero who prevents Isekai by stopping Truck-kun.
- The Seinen Mask Explanation (Spoiler Alert) Following Chapter 306 and onwards, jokes were made that Izuku was going through a similar progression to the one Eren Jaeger went in his Protagonist Journey to Villain. The fact that his mask made him look more intimidating now instead of goofy was used as proof that Izuku was now an "edgier" character than before. This has been decried by some as Misaimed Fandom, arguing that Izuku looking more and more scary is a reflection of his worsening mental state and not something fans should be cheering on.
- Iideku Explanation Chapter 321, once leaked, revealed that the outcome of the fight between Deku and Class 1-A was solved by Iida being the one to reach out to Midoriya and hold his hand, standing in contrast to what many fans expected, hoping that either Ochako (with whom Midoriya is teased to be the Official Couple) or Bakugou (with whom Midoriya makes the Fan-Preferred Couple) to be the one to reach out to him in the end, prompting fans to joke that Hori has changed his OTP.
- Re-Doofenshmirtz Explanation After Re-Destro's debut in the anime, plenty of jokes popped up or resurfaced about his resemblance to Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb. That show's co-creator, Dan Povenmire, has even discussed the resemblance.
- You should've gone for the head. Explanation (Spoiler Alert) At the end of the USJ arc, Snipe manages to shoot Shigaraki several times before Kurogiri warps him away. Following this, fans joked that much like the consequences of Thor's fatal mistake, if Snipe did end up killing Shigaraki then, he could've potentially prevented most of the plot and several deaths from happening, particularly the destruction of Deika City and the disastrous Paranormal Liberation War.
- I fell for you! Explanation A mistranslation of Chapter 321 made by a fan led the entire fanbase to believe that Mineta was confessing to having a crush on Deku. Cue numerous jokes about Mineta of all people being chosen as the first instance of LGBT representation among the main cast, with reactions ranging to outright horror to laughing at the irony of it all.
- Dabi can't beat people weak to fire. Explanation If Dabi is in a fight against a character that is negatively impacted by heat or flame, such as Geten or Hawks, he often fails to defeat them by himself. This reaches an apex during his final fight with Todoroki, wherein, despite his near-suicidal plan of attack, he survives, because he himself is weak to his fire.
